End of Book Thoughts

Your journey with Lily's Crossing has come to an end, I hope you enjoyed it. I want you to spend some time reflecting on the book. Think about the characters, the time period, and the main events in the story.

  • What did you enjoy most about the book?
  • Was there anything you didn't like about the book?
  • What did you think about the way the story ended?
  • Was there anything you wish would have happened that didn't?
Please use specific details from the story to support your thinking. Be honest about your feelings and thinking, this is your time to reflect on your book. Make sure to answer ALL questions.

Discussion Question 3 (Week 4)

We find out at the beginning of Chapter 20 that Gram has written a letter to Margaret. Lily is very surprised that Gram would do this. Gram's response is, "I knew how she felt. Suppose it was Poppy?" What do you think Gram means by this? Why did she write the letter? Lily then realizes for the first time that Gram misses Poppy. Why is this an important realization for Lily? How does it better help her understand her Gram? Make sure to include text evidence and explain your thinking.
Don't forget to answer ALL FOUR parts of the question in your answer.

Answer the question in RAD response format and use details from the text to support your answer. Do it in a blogging doc first so you can go back and make changes if necessary. Also, make sure you edit your response before you hit submit.

Discussion Question 2 (Week 3)

Discussion Question 2

We find out more about Albert's life and family in Hungary. We learn that both of his parents have died because they had a newspaper that "wrote bad things about Hitler and the Nazis." While telling Lily about his family history, he says that "if they loved us, they would not have done that (wrote the newspaper), they would not have bothered with newspapers." Do you agree with Albert? Do you think his parents shouldn't have written the newspaper? Why or why not? Do you think Albert's parents loved him? Make sure to really explain your thinking and answer ALL of the questions being asked!

Make sure to answer the question with a RAD response and use details from the text to support your answer. Please check your grammar, spelling, capitalization, and conventions before submitting your response. Type it in your blogging doc first so you can edit it if necessary.

Discussion Question 1 (Week 2)

Before Lily leaves Margaret's house in Chapter 4, Margaret gives Lily a key to her house. She explains, "This is for you, the back door key. You can sneak in, come right up to the attic, and write your next five books." Why is this key such a good gift for Lily? Knowing now what you know about Lily (that she can be a troublemaker), why could this gift get her in trouble?
There are TWO parts to this question, don't forget to answer BOTH!

Make sure to write in complete sentences using a RAD response. You should use specific examples from the book. Make sure to answer all parts of the question and edit your work before posting it to the site. You should type it in your blogging doc first so you don't lose your work and can go back and edit. Show me your best, well-supported thinking!
