Discussion Question 1 (Week 2)

Before Lily leaves Margaret's house in Chapter 4, Margaret gives Lily a key to her house. She explains, "This is for you, the back door key. You can sneak in, come right up to the attic, and write your next five books." Why is this key such a good gift for Lily? Knowing now what you know about Lily (that she can be a troublemaker), why could this gift get her in trouble?
There are TWO parts to this question, don't forget to answer BOTH!

Make sure to write in complete sentences using a RAD response. You should use specific examples from the book. Make sure to answer all parts of the question and edit your work before posting it to the site. You should type it in your blogging doc first so you don't lose your work and can go back and edit. 1. The key is such a good gift because it can get her into the house and it can get Lily’s memory back to the time that she had had with Margaret. Also,it could get her to write a good story about her and the fun with Margaret when she was there. And she could remember what she had not remembered and it just came to her mind and she would be so so so happy to remember. Next,it was bad idea to give her the key because it could have been memory for Margaret of her old house. And if Lily goes into the house and the new people have already moved in then she is going into a house to complete strangers. Next,Lily will be so scared to see new people in her house and will never feel comfortable to go back in there again. After that, she might get in trouble because she went into someone else's house and she does not even know them.

    1. I agree with you, Nora, that this might be some nice memories for Lily but also scary to go into a stranger's house.

I disagree with Nora because maybe Lily needs to move on to make new friends. She will remember her mom and Margaret.

  2. I think this is such a good gift for Lily is because she can explore a lot of knew things. For example, she can see some of some of Margerents families history and what some of the things are that Margaret's family did. Also, I think this good be a good resource for her when she is either bored or tired. She now has all the rights to go in that house and explore. I also think that this gift good get her in trouble for a few different reasons. For example, she might mess up some things in that house. Also, she could make so really bad decisions. Like that time when she was thinking about sneaking around in her hose she might have a tiny red lightbulb that says she do the same in that house.

    2. I agree with you that key could be good and bad for Lily. She may enjoy the time alone to think. However, it doesn't seem like Margaret really had permission to give Lilly the key in the first place. Great examples Lindsay in your response.

  3. The key was a good gift for Lily because when Lily needs to take a break from Gram. For example, when Gram wants Lily to practice the piano. Also, it’s good gift because sometimes you want to be alone and not have people with you. Margaret’s house is a place where she can go and be alone. The key that Margaret gives to Lily was such an amazing gift but, Margaret’s family will be gone, and when Lily uses the key she will be all alone. If someone were to find her there they may think that she broke in without permission. When she goes there to write her secret books, Gram will be worried about where she is. If Margaret’s mom finds out that Lily has a key she maybe will accuse her of taking it. It is another secret that she will have to be very careful with.

    1. I agree with you Eva because if Lily goes into the house with the key then somebody might think that she did break in. Also,I think that you have great detail from the book because Lily has been struggling to write a great story. And that could be a great place for her to have some peace and quiet and get some of her thinking back. Next,if she gets her thinking back then she can send the book that she made and give that to Margaret to see and she will be so happy, and she might want to write a story of her own some day because Lily inspired Margaret to write a good story of her own. And she can send it to Lily to make Lily happy and they can write books to each other a remember each other for ever. So I think that you put a lot of effort into this blog.

  4. The key was a good gift because it was her favorite color and that color was purple and she can get away from Gram because Lilly doesn't like piano so she can have a break. Secondly, this was a good gift because she can look back at what Margaret family's history. Also, she can write books and read books. It was a bad idea to give her the key because Lilly can run into something Margaret doesn't want Lilly to see, for example, Margaret was hiding candy, so she can hide something from Lilly if needed.

    1. You have some good attention to detail, I did not realize the key was purple.

  5. Great thinking Chanelle! I agree with you that Lilly may be headed for trouble in a empty house. I would feel strange to be in a boarded up dark house. How about you?
