Discussion Question 3 (Week 4)

We find out at the beginning of Chapter 20 that Gram has written a letter to Margaret. Lily is very surprised that Gram would do this. Gram's response is, "I knew how she felt. Suppose it was Poppy?" What do you think Gram means by this? Why did she write the letter? Lily then realizes for the first time that Gram misses Poppy. Why is this an important realization for Lily? How does it better help her understand her Gram? Make sure to include text evidence and explain your thinking.
Don't forget to answer ALL FOUR parts of the question in your answer.

Answer the question in RAD response format and use details from the text to support your answer. Do it in a blogging doc first so you can go back and make changes if necessary. Also, make sure you edit your response before you hit submit.

  1. Something that I think that Gram means by this is that Gram was interestested in the two letters so she wanted to write her very own letters to Margaret and Poppy. I think she wrote the letter because she wanted to see if Poopy and Margaret were okay and they were fine and happy. I think that this is important to show Lily because needs to know that Gram is not just a normal grandma she cares about her friends and that they are really trying hard to show Lily that she does not need to push herself so hard. She needs to know that she might not live a normal life like we do but she d s to keep trying. I think it helps Lilies to understand her grandma better because, Gram is not someone that just takes care of her she looks out for everyone and she stands bold and pride for everyone. She has a great grandma.

    1. I agree with you because I like that Gram is trying to know that with Eddie missing, Margaret and Poppy are fine. Margaret is probably sad and Gram knows that. She is being nice to write her a letter. I agree that Gram is a great grandma because she is nice and helping Lily.

  2. I think Gram mean she has moved before and Gram knows how Margaret feels. Also,Gram has moved away from all of her friends. Also,I think Gram wrote the note because she wanted to tell Margaret that Gram has been there before. Next,I think that Gram wanted to make margaret feel better about moving because she moved so Gram may wanted to let her know that Gram was there for her. I think that it is important that Lily realized that Gram missed Poppy is because Gram may never miss people. So it is important because Lily noticed that Gram really cares about Poppy and she really wants Poppy to be okay. I think that Lily understands Gram better because Lily know know what Gram looks like when she really cares about something or someone.

  3. I think she meant that she knew how she felt because she’s gone and she misses her friends and she wanted to check up on her. Lily was very surprised because she had never thought that Gram wound write Margret. But it turns out that Margaret was surprised and thankful. I would be too, at the end of the letter Margret asked how is the house and that’s how you can tell that she was thankful.

  4. I think Gram wrote a letter to Margaret because she would know how she would feel if Poppy was missing like Margaret’s brother Eddie is missing. Gram wanted to write the letter to tell her I’m so sorry Eddie is missing.
This helped Lily understand that Gram loves her son, Poppy. Lily understands that it could be her Poppy that was missing and Gram would be sad too. This help Lily know that Gram cares for Poppy like she does.
